Kris Furbert believes that everyone deserves to eat well. It was this conviction that prompted Mr. Furbert, Owner and Founder of Bermuda Pie Company, to contact Meals on Wheels in October of 2022 with an offer to help. He generously offered a weekly donation of pies that have become a very popular treat in our expanded food programme, “I wanted to give back. We’re in the food business and it seemed a natural fit.”

Bermuda Pie Company was started in 2018 and has grown steadily since. High on the list of goals Mr. Furbert set for BPCo was his desire to rebuild Bermuda’s pie culture. Speaking with him, one gets a short and very interesting history of pies and their popularity across the island through the years. He notes that Bermuda’s love of savory pies used to be more widely supported. In the day, pies were very popular. Thousands were purchased and consumed daily compared to merely hundreds consumed today– a situation he would like to reinvigorate. At present, BPCo pies can be purchased at their eatery at 54 Wellington Slip Road, St. George’s within the Wellington Oval, next to the St. George’s Cricket Club. They can also be found at grocery stores across the island. BPCo has also formed partnerships with a growing number of schools across the island as part of its Pie It Forward program where they donate 10% of all the revenue earned at each school  back to the school. In addition to mouthwatering pies (inspired by Mr. Furbert’s father, Maurice Furbert’s recipes) BPCo has also built a reputation for a fabulous burger. MOW Manager of Operations, Carol Gift, is grateful for this generous donation of a Bermuda classic, “Not only is it very popular with those we serve, BPCo’s contribution bolsters our ability to satisfy current demand which now includes delivery 4 days a week to our 240 clients, supply of 30 to 40 meals to the Cathedral food programme 4 days a week and regular meal supply to Windreach.”

So, a big thank you to Mr. Furbert and his team at Bermuda Pie Company for their generosity and good work. We encourage everyone in the community to support this young, community-minded company. Make today a pie day!
