At Meals on Wheels, our volunteers make everything possible. They give of their time and energy to ensure that people within our community who are incapacitated, unable to prepare and cook a nourishing meal on their own, or who have no one else on whom they can depend to do this for them receive a nourishing meal 4 days a week.
As a way of acknowledging our fabulous volunteers and express our gratitude we’re kicking off a Volunteer Spotlight series on Facebook and introducing it here on our website. So without further ado, allow us to introduce Mrs. Joan Blee.
Joan joined MOW in January 2011 and has been a dedicated volunteer ever since. While her primary role has always been driving and dispatch she has also raised her hand when help was needed elsewhere and has assisted the Volunteer Coordinator over the years when asked. This week she just switched over to the Warwick/Paget route delivering two days a week. This after a long stint driving twice a week to. St. George’s.
Whatever role she’s filling, Joan thoroughly enjoys the work. “I just love it. Meeting the people on the route. I just know that sometimes I’m the only person they will see that day.”
As we all know, committed volunteers are always in high demand. We are delighted and grateful that Joan chose us and, happily, so is she – “I’m so glad I picked this charity to volunteer with. The people are so nice and so caring. Again…I just love it.”
Thank you, Joan, for your dedication, enthusiasm and caring approach. We hope you enjoy your new route and are quite sure your new clients will enjoy meeting “the new girl” at their door.
